Class Act 2011 Winner, Marie Kumba Gomez, Stars in Murderer-in-Law
Marie K. Gomez was born in the Gambia. She’s the daughter of renowned playwright and author, Dr. George Gomez and a Nursing Sister & Health Adviser Mrs. Sai Samba Gomez. She studied Drama at Brampton Manor School.
From an early age Marie was part of a charity youth group (Join Hands), where she organized and performed several shows alongside with her fellow group members to raise funds for charity projects in her native country of the Gambia. Her talent and organizational skills were well noted and she was appointed as a group leader.
She came into spotlight when she won Ruke Amata’s “Class Act 2011″ talent hunt, after which she was offered a lead role in “The Past Came Calling”, a movie directed by the legendary Ruke Amata, featuring one of Nigeria’s top actresses, Chioma Chukwuka and another top Ghanaian Actor, John Dumelo.
Marie has also featured in several movies produced in the UK: Hunting 4 Hubbies; Life Beyond; Shameful Deceit; Battered; Single & Searching; Cafe Afrik; London Na Wa; At Home Abroad; ADot’s Wire and Kids; 18 Carat Mama; Psalm 91; and Nakala.
She is known for her kindness and bubbly personality. Nevertheless, she is versatile and exhibits great professionalism in her career. The Vice President of The Gambia, Her Excellency Dr Aja Isatou Njie Saidy, described her as an Arts Ambassador of The Gambia and commended her achievement as an upcoming actress.
Marie is proud of her African heritage and is often seen in beautiful and glamorous African attires; she is an African Princess.
In the year 2013, she won Best Upcoming Actress of the Year, awarded by the African Women of Substance Association, in Birmingham. In the same year she was awarded the Best Newcomer by the internationally acclaimed ZAFAA Awards, in London. Marie won Joebol Exquisit’s Best Emerging Actress of the Year 2014 award.
She is currently studying Tourism Management at Anglia Ruskin University, and is also interested in Modelling, but her love for Acting is incomparable.
Marie recently returned from a successful visit to Nollywood in Nigeria, where she was filming To Love A Sister, produced by the Aneke Twins for Greenville Productions.
